The way we know Hamas did the deeds they did on October 7 is because they gleefully uploaded them, themselves, to socials - thousands of them. All authenticating each other. All celebrating because they don't think they did anything wrong. We saw on the streets of Sydney, their supporters celebrating.
So we know that's true.
We know people die in war - which Hamas can end at any time.

No, that isn't being even-handed and no, they did not do the exact same thing as Hamas. Hamas crossed the border and attacked Israel, they planned it for months.
This war would not have happened but for that attack.

3. Egypt shares about a 10km (from memory) border with Gaza. Gazans are ethnically, culturally, religiously the same as Egyptians. Why didn't Egypt let Gazans see refuge ? The answer is the Egyptians were just as happy as Hamas to allow civilian Gazans be a weapon against Israel.
4. Israel has never done what Hamas did on Oct 7th, broadcast it to the world and show absolute glee at that depravity. Anyone who does not condemn that is morally bankrupt.
5. The information that comes out of Gaza, that is NOT Israeli is only what Hamas lets out. You can either believe Hamas propaganda or Israeli propaganda. Your choice.
6. As Murray said, it you start a war and lose it, you have no right to complain. Unfortunately for the civilians in Gaza they are paying the price for their support of Hamas (which seems pretty universal if the images from Oct 7 are true).
i agree that went badly. They are both right. You don't need to go to have an opinion BUT if you are an expert, spend your life studying it AND you go, then you do learn a lot from being there. It's not black-and-white, it's a sliding scale. Yes you get stage-managed anytime you go to a conflict zone as a journo BUT you also learn things just by being there even though it's stage-managed.

Yes the israelis were used as vax guineapigs by their own government even more enthusiastically than we were. I suspect that is because the US Military was driving that vax program and the Israelis are dependent on the US for their survival as a country.
